'BITTERSWEET: SUGAR, SPICE & SLAVERY Every single one of us has a link with slavery. Some of us have forebears who were forced to work as slaves on Caribbean plantations. Others have ancestors who would have smoked tobacco, worn cotton, eaten sugar and drunk cocoa and rum – all produced by slave labour. Slavery, Wales and the food we grow and eat are all bound together in a terrible, yet fascinating narrative in which it cost a slave's life to produce a pound of sugar. Our exhibition and literature design helps to tell this intriguing story.'
